Autistic Spectrum

There are different opinions over whether a diagnosis is helpful or hindrance and whether or not it helps a person to express any struggles. There are also many who identify as being on the spectrum who are denied or are unable to acquire such a diagnosis. Whatever the case, counselling can create a relationship to help you explore who you are as an individual and explore practical ways to help the outside world become more accessible at a pace that is right for you.

Since being on the spectrum covers an umbrella of different symptoms, it is important to note that individuals will always differ. It may be communication or expression has always been an issue, or it could be something more specific such as obsessive or repetitive tendencies, anxiety, releasing emotion, or wanting to explore a new routine, change or transition (such as a new house, location or job). If talking is hard, counselling can also make use of music, drawing or symbols which are familiar (such as hobbies and interest) to help explore who you are as a person. In counselling, you control the direction of exploration, what is useful, and which topics you wish to discuss.
